Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management (IHEEM)

IHEEM is an international professional engineering institute and is the UK’s largest specialist Institute for the Healthcare Estates Sector.

IHEEM’s primary purpose, as a professional development organisation, is to keep members up to date with developing technology and changing regulations and the Institute is also at the forefront of informing and implementing government policy such as the Lord Carter Productivity and Efficiency Programme.

As a membership organisation, IHEEM offers packages for individuals and affiliates such as NHS Trusts, Universities and Companies. IHEEM is also licensed to register engineers as Eng Tech, IEng and CEng.

IHEEM is a founding member of the International Federation of Hospital Engineering developing partnerships across the world and has a network of 12 regional branches in the UK, and 2 overseas in the Republic of Ireland and Hong Kong.

A key role of the Institute is to keep members and industry professionals up to date with developing technology and changing regulations which affect the sector. One of the ways IHEEM does this is through various CPD technical seminars and conferences that the Institute organises. These provide the opportunity for attendees to broaden their knowledge, upskill, debate key issues and share best practice with peers.

The Health Estate Journal (HEJ)

Published 10 times a year, and the official IHEEM magazine, The Health Estate Journal (‘HEJ’) is recognised as an authoritative and topical publication covering the most important issues facing healthcare estate and facilities management and engineering professionals, as well as the associated design, architectural, and construction supply chain.

Each month the Journal – which celebrates 70 years in print this year, but is also fully accessible online –  incorporates both in-depth technical articles on key issues of interest, and the latest sector, product, and technology-related news. Each edition of HEJ also features an Institute News section reporting on recent IHEEM activities, initiatives and events – including IHEEM’s seminar programme – and events undertaken through the Institute’s extensive Branch network across the UK.

This year HEJ will again be publishing the official Healthcare Estates show preview, show issue, and catalogue. Copies of the Journal will be available on the IHEEM stands, and will be widely distributed throughout the two-day show.
