Where Innovation, Technology and Leadership Meet

“Where Innovation, Technology and Leadership Meet” are the reason why nearly 5,000 professionals from the healthcare sector headed for Manchester in October last year.

Healthcare Estates offer visitors the opportunity of peer-to-peer idea exchanges, with visitors, delegates, and speakers representing key areas of running the healthcare estate.

A “compare and contrast” approach across the conference and exhibition theatre programmes will highlight the very best in hospital design, management, and maintenance across the UK and Europe, and discussion on best practice, innovation, and more efficient ways of providing patient care will provide delegates with tangible solutions to issues in their hospitals.

The exhibition has a new look again this year, a bigger Design and Construction zone and our biggest zone to date focussed on engineering and compliance, which includes a dedicated theatre for HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) & Engineering, as creating the right conditions for patient recovery and recuperation forms an essential part of any healthcare institution’s remit. The high volume of people coming and going into healthcare buildings requires heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems that reflect the needs of each establishment, in order to maintain good air quality and the right environment for patients and members of staff alike. Alongside user-friendly energy controls that are key to keeping the systems running smoothly and effectively, suppliers to the sector will be able to discuss their ideas, solutions and products in the HVAC & Engineering purpose-built theatre as well as showcase their organisations by exhibiting within the dedicated area. The Engineering & Compliance zone will also feature a dedicated theatre for Fire & Medical Gas plus a dedicated area and theatre focussed on Infection Control & Water Management.

Design & Construction in Healthcare incorporating the Design & Construction Theatre and Architects Showcase in conjunction with Architects for Health, BIM4Health and Procure 22, features leading organisations including Tarkett Flooring, Starkstrom STJ Projects, and Axis. The area is always a key attraction for architects, planners, designers and trusts looking at new designs, refurbishments and modernisation.

Training, staffing and apprenticeships will look at the impact post-Brexit on the NHS, and the recruitment of staff to the sector with an emphasis on recruiting, and diversity and inclusion in the NHS. As well as the dedicated area supported by Troup Bywaters & Anders, the impact of Brexit on the NHS and public policy will be a major focus in 2020. Key factors to be debated include the state of the new UK government’s finances, which will be crucial in determining future health provision, as there are likely to be further pressures on public-service funding.

The exhibition takes place over two days in Manchester in October on the 6th & 7th October, and attracts nearly 5,000 attendees with many attending both days. Steve Webb, Director for organisers Step Exhibitions comments; “The exhibition area really benefited from the new layout last year, the keynote theatre on the exhibition floor and improved features; a new HVAC and Engineering area and theatre, the apprentice training zone and Infection Prevention theatre were packed. We worked closely with a number of key organisations to attract as diverse an audience as possible. At times it was so busy you could scarcely move in the aisles”.

The event is sponsored by Armitage Shanks, Bender and new this year, Catfoss, who are a market leader bespoke modular construction, and are planning a major presence for 2020 with more to be announced in the coming months.

Senior representatives from the NHS, Private sector and businesses working in the sector come to Manchester for the biggest showcase of products and services in the UK Healthcare sector. IHEEM’s conference and dinner takes place alongside the Healthcare Estates Exhibition.

The organisers want to make sure that all NHS Trusts and specifically those people working in Estates, Facilities, Security, Fire, Training, Energy and construction are able to come along to the event. Steve Webb, from organisers Step Exhibitions said, “Healthcare Estates offers so much content, with eight dedicated areas, each with a theatre offering free content, advice clinics and over 240 exhibiting companies; Healthcare Estates offers a fabulous opportunity to those working in hospitals in the estates departments – the opportunity to hear from key groups like NHSi, P22, IHEEM, SophE (part of CIBSE), and others. In 2020 we are running a ‘bring a colleague’ campaign, encouraging those who already attend and enjoy the event to bring someone they work with along with them. If they are a VIP (working in NHS or an IHEEM member) their guest will also be made a VIP for the day that they visit. The VIP package offers free car parking, complimentary tea and coffee, a dedicated area for meetings and to catch up with colleagues, plus special rates for becoming a delegate in the conference. The conference delegate rates are significantly reduced up to the 30th June so booking early is recommended.

The conference programme will encompass four parallel streams; Strategy & Leadership, Planning Design and Construction, Engineering and Facilities Management, and Innovation.  HTMs and HBNs will be a significant feature in the conference, with IHEEM’s technical platforms taking a lead in demonstrating their technical excellence and educating their peers on the latest updates.  The conference will also be enhanced with content on medical devices and new technology, including health sciences.  Soft FM will also form a part of the conference and exhibition, including waste management, catering, cleaning and security.  Compliance and Governance will be featured in a Keynote slot, and sustainability will also take centre stage, with carbon reduction to meet the 2050 net zero carbon target, and plastic reduction being ongoing features.

Presentation submissions for the conference are invited from all healthcare sector professionals, in any one of the wide array of topics covered at the conference, including:  Asset Management, BIM, Clinical Excellence, Efficiency, Energy, Funding, Innovation, Lighting, New Technology, Procurement, Planning, Regeneration, Safety, Sustainability.  Submit via the event web site:  www.healthcare-estates.com
