Accessible Healthcare Premises

Time: 16:15 - 16:35

Date: 08/10/2019

The NHS faces challenges in adapting buildings of various ages and purposes to meet the needs of disabled people. Disabled people can find it difficult to access their local hospitals and health centres – inaccessible medical equipment, poor signage,
internal steps, inadequate bathroom facilities and inaccessible parking areas create challenges for Health Managers to overcome in creating accessible facilities for all.

Drawing on fifteen years experience of auditing and advising healthcare providers from local GP and dental practices to acute hospitals for numerous NHS Trusts, Steven will review the new British Standards BS 8300 in accessibility of buildings and their approaches.

Steven will compare the Standards with the 2014 Department of Health Building notes and identify new and emerging best practice in access from Europe.
