Building the Dream – How Collaboration and a New Change Management Approach is Driving the Construction of a New £1.2bn EUR Brunswick Hospital in Germany

In Brunswick, Northern Germany, a large-scale construction project, controlled by the local communal agency for hospitals was started. This project was, however, cancelled, leaving an ugly building shell behind. This resulted in a political crisis and no clear direction on how to take the project forward. My task was to carry out a total reset – a complete new-start – of the cancelled change-process and win back political trust. In January 2019, after two years of intensive activity, this new-start was given political blessing in its entirety. Now, a new, 1.2 billion EUR, central clinic with a completely new internal organisation will be erected. Two other clinics will be located close by resulting in the regeneration of the surrounding area.
