Many healthcare estates date from the 19th century and have evolved during the 20th century to become complex groups of buildings. Where buildings or structures are listed, understanding the extent of protection conferred by designation and what is of value is critical to making informed decisions.
This presentation will identify the key heritage risks that can affect the planning, design and management of healthcare estates. By taking a proactive approach to managing change in the historic environment, heritage risk can be understood and built into project management.
We will explore common heritage issues relevant to healthcare estates and the tools available to assist in managing heritage risk and reducing the legislative burden including: listing enhancement, certificates of lawfulness for proposed works, certificates of immunity from listing and Heritage Partnership Agreements.
