Biophilic Design is an innovative method of designing the spaces within which we live, work, learn, play and heal. This presentation investigates how nature can impact on physical and mental health outcomes at multiple levels from:
Macro – Masterplanning and placemaking;
Meso 1 – Liminal inside/outside spaces;
Meso 2 – Building envelope (intimate, private, social and public spaces);
Micro – Body envelope and its sensory receptors, converting ambient input into a physiological state;
Neuro – Mind and mental health.
Armed with new design tools such as Biophilic Design, designers can now create and choreograph spaces that can truly heal.
