UZ Leuven is a large university hospital in Belgium (1.500 beds, 250.000m²). Patient care, innovative research and education are very important issues in our hospital. The hospital is working very closely with the University of Leuven (KU Leuven).

UZ Leuven and KU Leuven are building a Health Sciences Campus on the site of campus Gasthuisberg. One of the goals is an ambulatory quadrant which organizes all ambulatory activities (consultation, function measurements, day care treatment, outpatient surgery). As a first step, an new ambulatory center has been in use since 2018. Thereby is the focus on an efficient patient flow and a smooth internal operation against the background of an academic hospital as well as creating an healing environment for the patients.

This paper will treat the ambulatory quadrant and ambulatory center in the hospital. We will discuss the starting points and flexibility of the layout as well as comfortstudies, mock up room and model room.
