Transformed NHS Estate: Unlocking The Potential of Surplus Land and Property

Time: 16:35 - 16:55

Date: 09/10/2018

Who are we:
NHS Property Services brings property and facilities management expertise to our primary care portfolio. We act as both landlord and service provider. Our portfolio is around 10 percent of the NHS estate worth over £3bn in value consisting of 3000 properties and 7000 tenants.
Through innovative asset management we are reducing costs, creating a more fit for purpose estate and generating vital funds. All of our savings and capital receipts are passed back to the NHS for reinvestment in the estate.
We propose a session which explores NHS Property Services’ work with our customers and partners – CCGs, GPs and Trusts – to transform the NHS estate through unlocking the potential of surplus land and property. Following the response to the Naylor report, reviewing surplus land and property is a vital step to ensuring more efficient and fit-for-purpose estates as well as helping to create the potential for new homes.
Since our inception, we have sold 295 properties, raised £203m through disposal of unwanted assets and released land for 3,749 new homes.
The session will cover:
• Striving for a more efficient estate: sharing examples of how we have supported trusts and CCGs to make vital system improvements by freeing up surplus land and releasing capital for investments
• How we are helping the primary care estate to improve utilisation of existing facilities through releasing surplus land
• Examining how NHS Property Services is opening new delivery routes for developing new healthcare facilities and housing
• How to recycle existing asset capital for healthcare re-provision and land release
• How the NHS can free surplus land and property for creating new housing
