The recent demise of large outsourcing firms has seen many Trust’s bring Estates & Facilities services back in house and this is set to continue as the Cabinet Office continues to closely monitor the sustainability of some large FM service providers.

The presentation will focus on the skills required to manage outsourced services and how they differ with those required to in house services against a background of a national skills shortage and tight budgets.
The presentation will cover topics such as lack of contract management capability and an appreciation for the complexity and informed client aspects of contract management and how if outsourced services transfer back in house, the need for good governance processes and commitment to lifecycle investment.

In contrast in house services will need to consider vacancy control, cost improvement and a robust performance regime, the challenges of a rigid pay system and how to compete to recruit and retain technical staff, despite recent national pay awards.
