Claire Hennessy

After leaving school at 17, Claire joined the Royal Navy where she was a weapons electrical engineer mechanic working on-board Her Majesty’s warships maintaining and carrying out repairs on the weapons and radar systems. After four years travelling the world with the Royal Navy, she left Her Majesty’s Service to become an electrical apprentice at The Hammersmith Hospital in London.

During this apprenticeship, her line manager nominated her for the Junior Engineer of the Year Award 1997, which she duly won.

Claire completed her apprenticeship at the Hammersmith Hospital and then moved on to the Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth in St Johns Wood, London where she was the Assistant Works Manager.

Six years later, she joined Hemel Hempstead General Hospital as Estates Officer and then went on to Watford General Hospital to manage the Operational Estates Team.

In 2012 she returned to her home town of Oxford where she is now the Head of Operational Estates and Facilities at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Alongside developing her career and a punishing work schedule, Claire has also progressed her academic qualifications from her initial Electrical Installation City & Guilds with a BEng Hons in Building Services Engineering and she also holds Senior Authorised Persons status across all engineering specialities following successful completion of all specialist AP courses and AE assessment
