Biography

Jerry is the Director of Authorising Engineers and a member of the Senior Management Team at The Institute of Occupational Medicine, and a founder member and current Chairperson of the SVH society. Though his ventilation knowledge and experience Jerry was invited to join the Surgical Plume Alliance (SPA) as an active committee member in 2021.
He has a career of over 45 years in health and safety, experienced in occupational hygiene and healthcare ventilation for the last 30 years, joining IOM in 2002.
An Authorising Engineer (Ventilation) for a number of NHS trusts and private hospitals, he leads a team of Authorising Engineers taking a pragmatic view and practical approach. Involved with reviewing designs, witnessing commissioning and undertaking validation of ventilation systems working with IOM’s internal and other validation and verification specialists,
During the early stages of Covid -19 he was brought in by NHS Scotland to ensure the NHS Louisa Jordan a temporary hospital had safe ventilation systems in place; being appointed as the Authorising Engineer (Ventilation) for the build stage of the field hospital, to ensure the ventilation plant was fit for purpose with staff and patients being kept safe. He was subsequently appointed Authorising Engineer for ventilation during the operational stage of the hospital.
NHS Scotland also appointed Jerry as the Authorising Engineer (Ventilation) during the build stages of three regional Covid-19 test laboratories in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh.
