Biography

Joel began his career in building design by studying a PhD at the School of the Built Environment, University of Nottingham. He worked closely with industry, producing several innovative products for daylight companies.

Since then, Joel has worked as a building physics and sustainability champion in several leading consulting design practices, including Gifford, Inbuilt and Whole House Energy. His current role at QODA includes thought-leadership in all aspects of sustainability, with a focus on low-energy buildings – including the Passivhaus Standard – and natural daylight. Joel is passionate about enabling good architecture, and creating spaces in which building users can flourish.

Joel has broad experience spanning more than 10 years, in design and co-ordination of sustainable engineering solutions for a wide range of building types and sizes. He has experience in the Residential, Education, Industrial, Health, Commercial and Scientific sectors, with a specialism in natural light design for educational buildings, and low energy residential buildings – including zero carbon and Passivhaus.

Relevant Experience

Joel has been involved in a wide range of large-scale £10-100m+ projects over many years, including bids and projects at the earliest stages.  He has engaged with architects, engineers, developers and clients from a wide range of backgrounds.

Joel has a passion for good communication, and is always looking for new ways to convey sustainable buildings to the people he meets and works with.
