Biography

Laurence Lovat is Professor of Gastroenterology & Biophotonics at UCL. He is also clinical director of the WEISS Centre at UCL, an initiative by the Wellcome Trust and EPSRC to bring together engineers medical academics and patients to create and rapidly translate novel engineering solutions to problems in medical intervention. During COVID-19 he became the UK chief investigator for a Gates Foundation trial to prevent COVID in healthcare workers and used his strong collaborations within WEISS to create a powerful interdisciplinary team to explore ways to make hospital air safer for patients and staff alike.
