Biography

Wayne has over 30 years’ experience of managing and delivering professional healthcare Estates & Facilities services in both the NHS and PFI Sectors holding senior management roles in a number of NHS Trusts. He is currently Director of Estates, Facilities and Clinical Engineering  for City Hospitals Independant Commercial Enterprises (CHoICE), the subsidiary company for South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust.

An ex-apprentice himself, Wayne now is Chair of the Northern & Yorkshire NHS Assessment Centre which delivers Engineering and Clinical Engineering apprentices to all Trusts in the region and now nationally. The introduction of a dedicated Clinical Engineering  Apprentice Standard in 2021 has been a huge success and will strengthen the delivery of national Clinical Engineering training to a high standard across the UK.

He is a Chartered Engineer with a Masters Degree in Building Services from Northumbria University as well as a previous member of the IHEEM National Council and current Chair of the IHEEM Audit Committee.

Wayne has a key interest in the development of the IHEEM platform to promote the awareness of regulatory compliance and best practice for Medical Engineering and Clinical/Healthcare service looking to strengthen the core values from apprentice to experienced engineer.
